• Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Institute Chair Professor, Dept of CSE, IIT Bombay

    Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan is an Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. His research interests span machine learning, natural language processing, and data-efficient AI. He leads the DECILE research lab focused on developing techniques for training state-of-the-art deep learning models with minimal data and computational resources. His work has been published in top-tier conferences and journals including NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI, and ACL.

    Prateek Chanda is a 4th year Ph.D. student at IIT Bombay's Department of Computer Science and Engineering, advised by Ganesh Ramakrishnan and Pratik Jawanpuria. His research focuses on large-scale efficient machine learning. He is supported by the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (2022–2027) and the Microsoft PhD Award (2025–2026). He has interned twice as a Student Researcher at Google DeepMind India (2023–2024), working on efficient pretraining and knowledge distillation for the Gemini and LaMDA models.

  • Prof. Pratik Jawanpuria, Associate Professor, Center for Machine Intelligence and Data Science (C-MInDS), IIT Bombay

    Pratik Jawanpuria is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Machine Intelligence and Data Science (C-MInDS), IIT Bombay. His research lies at the intersection of machine learning and optimization, with a primary focus on Riemannian optimization, optimal transport, geometric methods for deep learning, and their applications in modern AI systems. Before returning to academia he solved large-scale problems at Microsoft and Amazon. He holds a Ph.D. and B.Tech from IIT Bombay and completed his postdoctoral studies at Saarland University, Germany.

  • Dr. Bamdev Mishra, Principal Applied Scientist, Microsoft, Hyderabad

    Bamdev Mishra is a Principal Applied Scientist at Microsoft's Office India Intelligence team in Hyderabad. His research focuses on applied machine learning with an emphasis on Riemannian optimization, optimal transport, and geometric methods for industrial applications. Prior to Microsoft he was in the India Machine Learning team at Amazon. He holds a PhD from the University of Liège, Bachelor's and Master's degrees from IIT Bombay, and spent a year as a visiting Research Associate at the University of Cambridge.

  • Dr. Bapi Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, IIIT-Delhi

    Bapi Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor at IIIT-Delhi, where he leads the Distributed Computing and Learning Lab (DCLL) and contributes to India's sovereign AI initiative as a consortium member at BharatGen. His research interests include distributed machine learning, federated learning, concurrent data structures, learned index structures, and computational topology. Before joining IIIT-Delhi he was an ISTPlus Postdoctoral Fellow at IST Austria (hosted by Dan Alistarh) and a Research Staff Member at IBM India Research Lab. He holds a PhD from Chalmers University of Technology and M.Tech and M.Sc degrees from IIT Delhi.
